We kicked off the hiking season with a dayhike up in the Hudson Highlands. Located just outside of the charming town of Cold Spring, the Metro North trains drop hikers off right at the trailhead during the weekends, making the trails quite busy as New Yorkers flock out of the city in search of some nature time.
We hiked the Breakneck Ridge trail – the first mile of which is a super fun rock scramble straight up Breakneck mountain, right on the banks of the Hudson – to Mt. Taurus, the highest point in the Hudson Highlands. Though the mountains in the area are small, they are mighty! We covered 4,000ft of vertical (2k ascent and 2k descent) over approximately 8 miles – so basically either straight up or straight down the whole way.
